Terms of Service

Last updated: 12 July 2026

Welcome to HalalZawaj (“HalalZawaj”, “we”, “us”, “our”), a Muslim matrimonial platform available at halalzawaj.org (the “Service”), operated by Jemal Mohamed, based in Stockholm, Sweden. HalalZawaj serves Ethiopian, Eritrean, Somali, Kenyan, and Ugandan Muslim communities worldwide, and welcomes practising Muslims everywhere. By creating an account or using the Service in any way, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”) and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Privacy Policy

1. Purpose of the Service

HalalZawaj exists for one purpose only: to help practising Muslims find a spouse in a manner consistent with Islamic principles of modesty, honesty, and family involvement. The Service is not a dating site, a social network, or a platform for casual relationships.

2. Eligibility

To use HalalZawaj you must: be Muslim; be at least 18 years old; be genuinely seeking a halal marriage partner, and be legally free to marry under the laws that apply to you; provide accurate information about your marital status (never married, divorced, or widowed); hold only one account, for yourself. An account may be created and operated on behalf of a family member seeking marriage only with that person's full knowledge and consent.

3. The Wallahi Wabillahi Oath

Registration on HalalZawaj requires the following oath: “Wallahi Wabillahi — I swear in the name of Allah, I am here with genuine intentions of marriage.” This oath is the moral foundation of our community. Any member found to have registered with insincere intentions — for dating, entertainment, fraud, or any purpose other than seeking halal marriage — will be permanently banned, without refund of any paid subscription.

4. Your Account

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything that happens under your account. You must provide truthful, accurate, and current information in your profile, including your age, location, marital status, religious practice, education, and profession. Female members are required to provide the name and contact details of their Wali (guardian). These details are shared only with a member you have matched with, as described in the Privacy Policy. You must notify us at hello@halalzawaj.org if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

5. Conduct and Community Rules

You agree that you will NOT: create a fake or misleading profile, or misrepresent your identity, age, marital status, intentions, or any other material fact; use the Service for dating, casual relationships, friendship-seeking, or any purpose other than marriage; harass, threaten, abuse, stalk, or intimidate any member; contact a member after they have asked you to stop; or send any content that is obscene, indecent, or contrary to Islamic etiquette; request money, gifts, or financial information from any member, or engage in any form of fraud or deception; share, screenshot, or republish another member's photos, contact details, Wali details, or profile information outside the Service without their explicit permission; attempt to bypass the photo-privacy system, including by pressuring a member to share photos outside the Service; use the Service if you are already married and concealing that fact from members you contact; upload photos of another person, or any content that infringes another person's rights; create an account for commercial purposes, advertising, or promotion of any product or service; use automated tools, scrapers, or scripts to access the Service or collect member data.

6. Profile Verification

We may review profiles for authenticity and appropriateness. We may request identity verification (such as an ID document or a selfie check) at any time; verified profiles may display a verification badge when this feature is available. We reserve the right to reject or remove any profile, photo, or content without explanation.

7. Photos and Modesty Controls

Profile photos on HalalZawaj are blurred by default and are revealed to another member only when an expression of interest has been accepted between you and that member, unless you have chosen in your profile settings to show your photo to everyone. You control whether to upload a photo at all. You must upload only photos of yourself, and photos must be modest and appropriate. We may remove any photo we consider inappropriate without notice.

8. Interests, Matching, and Communication

Members may express interest in one another. If an interest is accepted by both sides, the members become a “match” and certain information is unlocked between them (photo, email address, and — for sisters — Wali contact details) so that families can be involved. Declining an interest is final and does not require a reason. All communication between members must be respectful, purposeful, and marriage-focused. Inappropriate, sexual, or harassing content is strictly prohibited. We strongly encourage Wali involvement in all communications, and the Service is designed to bring the Wali in from the first contact. If in-site messaging is offered, HalalZawaj reserves the right to monitor conversations for the safety of members, and members will be able to report any user. Until then, report any concern to hello@halalzawaj.org. We do not guarantee that you will find a match, receive responses, or achieve marriage through the Service.

9. Your Responsibility and Safety

While we may review profiles and offer verification, you must independently verify the identity, character, and circumstances of any person you communicate with — as Islamic tradition itself commands thorough inquiry before marriage. Involve your family and Wali early. Meet only in safe, public, and appropriately chaperoned settings. Never send money to anyone you meet through the Service — this is the most common pattern of matrimonial fraud. Report suspicious behaviour to hello@halalzawaj.org immediately.

10. Subscriptions and Payments

HalalZawaj offers free membership, and may offer paid plans that unlock features such as contacting other members. Paid features will always be clearly identified before you pay. Paid subscriptions are charged in advance. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account, and cancellation stops future charges. No refunds are given for partial subscription periods. Prices may change with 30 days' notice to registered members. Prices may vary by region.

11. Content You Submit

You keep ownership of the content you submit (profile text, photos). By submitting it, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, display, and process that content solely for the purpose of operating the Service. You are fully responsible for the content you submit. We may remove any content that violates these Terms.

12. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or permanently terminate your account, without prior notice and without refund, if you violate these Terms, provide false information, harass or abuse other members, are found to have insincere intentions, or violate the Wallahi Wabillahi oath. You may delete your account at any time by contacting hello@halalzawaj.org. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including limitations of liability) will survive.

13. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. HalalZawaj is a platform that connects people — we do not guarantee marriage outcomes, that any profile information is accurate, or that any member is who they claim to be. We do our best to protect the community but cannot guarantee the authenticity of every member. Marriage decisions are yours and your family's alone.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, HalalZawaj and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for any loss, harm, or disappointment arising from: (a) your use of, or inability to use, the Service; (b) the conduct of any member, whether online or offline, including at in-person meetings; (c) unauthorised access to your data resulting from circumstances beyond our reasonable control. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

15. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HalalZawaj and its operator from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your content, or your conduct toward other members.

16. Changes to the Service and These Terms

We may modify the Service or these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and notify registered members via email or on the site. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service shall first be pursued through good-faith negotiation; if unresolved, it shall be resolved under Swedish jurisdiction.
